What Tours Do I Offer?

At this time, I offer the following tours: The Traditional Bavarian Cuisine Tour; The Sweet Tour of Munich; The Vegan Tour of Munich; and The Traditional Christmas Markets Foods Tour. Details below!

The Traditional Bavarian Cuisine Tour

On this tour, you will discover typical Bavarian dishes, tasting a popular snack food, a main dish, and something sweet for dessert. Explore Munich’s old town and central food market, where the locals still shop, too. Learn about Bavarian culinary and cultural traditions, and receive suggestions on where else you might want to eat and drink.

Horses unfortunately not included. 😉

This tour combines a walking tour and a sit-down main meal at a traditional Bavarian restaurant in downtown Munich. The menu includes red meat and alcoholic beverages (specifically beer :-)). Alternatives for both are available. This tour can easily be made vegetarian, but choices are more limited. Please advise at the time of booking.

The legal drinking age for beer and wine is 16 in Germany. Hard liquor may only be sold to and consumed by people over 18 years of age. Participants under the age of 16 will therefore be served a non-alcoholic beverage instead. Between the ages of 16 and 18, it is up to the parent or guardian whether the participant will be allowed to consume alcohol.

The Sweet Tour of Munich

As a lover of all things sweet, I invite you to discover some of Munich’s best bakeries, cake shops and other purveyors of dessert and sweets, whether Bavarian or international. I will take you around the central food market and the old town and share stories of food and history with you.

Please note: The focus of this tour is on quality rather than quantity. Think small-batch chocolate, not supermarket candy aisle.

Chocolate, to be enjoyed hot and/or cold.

You should obviously not be on a sugar-free diet. 😉

If you suffer from any food allergies, e.g. nuts, please note that I cannot guarantee that food items served on this tour will be completely allergen-free, as I have no control over the production process.

The Vegan Sweet & Savoury Tour of Munich

Let’s be real. A lot of Bavarian cooking would originally have been vegan – simply because people couldn’t afford animal products. These days, most of it is anything but. Outside the cities, you will still get funny looks if you ask for vegan food, and Bavarian politicians like to make fun of vegans.

In cities such as Munich, however, more and more vegan food spots are opening, so let’s eat!

What will you get on this tour? A typical Bavarian snack that is usually meat, from a vegan butcher. A vegan take on a main dish. A stop in a vegan pâtisserie, even though the little cakes are not necessarily traditionally Bavarian.

Due to reservation policies, this tour is only available at lunchtime. It will take a little longer because we have to travel from the center of Munich. We will reach one venue on foot (approx. 15 minutes) and another by public transportation. Return-trip subway tickets are included in the price. If you prefer to travel by taxi or Uber, you will have to pay the driver directly.

The Traditional Christmas Market Food Tour

If Bavarian food seems complicated, the Christmas markets are a challenge in themselves!

Let me take you to a Christmas market or two away from Marienplatz, and show you the stuff that locals eat along with their Glühwein. Obviously, there will be hot drinks too (alcoholic and non-alcoholic options).

Please note that this tour will take place on busy Christmas markets, where there is usually no seating available! You may have to be on your feet for the entire duration of the tour. Christmas markets consist of outdoor stalls and there are very few, if any, indoor spaces. So please dress for the temperatures and the weather. In the evenings, it will be quite dark, too. If this, along with the sometimes uneven ground, is a concern, no worries – this tour can easily be done in the afternoons too. It will just be a little less atmospheric.

Depending on which market(s) we visit, we might have to travel by public transportation or, if you prefer, taxi. The cost for the transportation is not included in the tour price.

Food Tour Pricing

Since all tours are fully private and customizable, the exact price will depend on the size of your party and the amount of food and drink you would like to include.

For each tour, you can choose whether you would like to have the cost of the food included in the price or not.

  • All food and drinks included: No extra costs for you, but I set the menu. You separately pay for anything you order in addition. (Please note that this includes water, as restaurants charge for it.)
  • No food or drinks included: You only pay me for my time. At the different stops, I will explain the menu and help you choose. You can order as much (or as little) as you like, and you pay for whatever you order. A tour on this model will take longer, because we will spend time discussing the menu.

Happy Munich travels!
